About The Show
Megill & Company is premiering an evening-length work rooted in the themes of screen addiction, isolation, workaholism, and loss of community. While the topic has a heavy lean, you can still expect the feel-good dance and theatrical humor Megill & Company has become known for. Featuring selections of new music from the MeCo 2022 Music Dance Competition, the dancers’ musicality shines through groovy jazz vocabulary and abstracted movement textures. Weaving all of this together with a script of spoken word makes the show a delight. Megill & Company cast includes Karissa Jones, Brooklynn Reeves Mallett, Morpheus Kostromin, and Beth Megill. The program will include a handful of local dance artists alongside Megill & Company, including Nathalie Wutkee Agredano and Connor Casavan.
My Piece
I am honored and thankful to be invited by Megill & Company to perform.
This is a new and unfinished piece I am workshopping. The working title is Lemniscate, referring to the symbol for infinity or any of several figure eight-shaped curves. Lemniscates have come to mean a great deal to me as they can represent embracing two or more ideas that seem opposing. Understanding that we can include both ideas rather than choosing one or the other has brought me great peace in my life.
The roots of this piece are incredibly raw and vulnerable and I am continuing to explore how I present it. I perform it as a solo artist, simultaneously creating the music, sound, and movement on stage. The piece explores how we see ourselves, what we feel we are a part of, and what is a part of us.
